Toy Game (AA–88): Bluff Raise vs Block Bet
Hi,
while playing around with a toy game I noticed that the bluff-raise candidates versus a block bet change a lot depending on the bet size. I’d like to understand why.
Setup
・Two players, OOP and IP, both are restricted to AA–88
・Board: 2♠ 2♥ 2♦ 2♣ 3x (22223)
・Pot = 100, effective stack = 100
・OOP can donk bet: 10, 25, 50, or 100
Using GTO+, I got:
・Versus bet 25, OOP’s betting range: KK 100%, QQ 50%, 88 30%
・Versus bet 10, OOP’s betting range: AA 20.2%, QQ 50%, 99 5.9%, 88 5.9%
For IP’s response:
・Versus bet 25, IP’s bluff raises are: JJ 23.1%, TT 30.8%, 99 4.62% (OOP folds QQ 100% versus the raise.)
・Versus bet 10, IP’s bluff raises are: 99 36.9%, 88 45.9% (No raising with JJ or TT.)
My questions:
1. Why does IP bluff-raise JJ and TT at much higher frequency than 99 versus the 25 block bet?
(I understand why 88 doesn’t want to raise much, since it blocks OOP’s bluffs.)
2. As a double-check, is the reason IP doesn’t raise JJ and TT versus the 10 block bet simply that the call EV for those hands is too high in that node?
Any intuition or explanation about the blocker/EV logic here would be really appreciated.
