You don't need any bot knowledge to win on Ignition if you table select very diligently. However, the "good bots" are, unfortunately, improving every single month. I do agree that the situation is pretty dire, but you can still grind out a healthy WR if you're very, very strict about only playing tables with Fish.
The core of my WR definitely comes from bot exploits, but those come and go really quickly. I still think 3-5bb/100 WRs can come just from diligent selection, though. 2k is a bit tougher because it is somewhat geofenced even on Ignition with only Australians and Americans having access. 1k is a much larger pool and it is much more realistic to table select there and still get decent volume. At 2k, sometimes there isn't a single notable fish in my entire session. Now, of course, sometimes there are huge whales, too, but 1k is the last stake where, if you play peak hours, you're guaranteed a pretty good chunk of volume with Fish at the table. It does vary, but if you put your ass in the chair enough, you'll realize your edge.

Still doing well, thanks. For the year, I am hovering around 9bb/100 EV splitting my volume mainly across 500nl-2knl. Recently, I have become concerned about disclosing my exact income online for security reasons so I am no longer comfortable sharing the precise number $$ amounts.

I play late at night because that's when recreational players play. I am US-based and US recreationals mainly play from ~10pm-4am in whatever their local time zone is. I would never pick these hours by choice and the hours are one of my biggest complaints as a poker pro.
I don't give any thought to red lining vs blue lining. I just try to make the best play possible and let the lines be whatever they're going to be. From a purely theoretical perspective, you're always going to have a much lower standard deviation purposely blue lining, but overall WR might be significantly lower -- maybe as much as 1-2bb/100. If you're really good at red lining, it will be even more than that. The reason for this is because the way to intentionally blue line is to skip lots of bluffs/preflop defends that are worth a fraction of a chip at equilibrium. Now, of course, if opponents are overfolding, which they are at every level of poker below 5k (there are specific exceptions in terms of players, textures, spots, etc), then they are worth more than that. Skipping all these spots will prevent a huge amount of variance at the cost of significant WR.
All that said, there are many different wants to approach poker. I play poker for money. I don't care about being the best in the world, rising through the ranks, or making any kind of a name for myself. If I can retire very early, I will consider the mission accomplished. I don't want to play poker for the rest of my life. I'd like to stop playing as soon as possible, really. I don't enjoy the grind; I am just very well compensated for my troubles.
I say all this to make the following point: if you are meeting your financial goals with your current strategy, there is no need to reinvent the wheel and become a red-liner. Continue to put in enough study to maintain your edge and play as much as possible to realize that edge. That's the stage of poker I'm currently in myself. I probably only study ~15 hours a week these days and sometimes that is much closer to ~10 hours. I used to study more than I played when I was moving through the micros and into midstakes.
Poker, for me, is just a vehicle to achieve financial goals and not something that I draw a larger meaning, purpose, or identity from. If you're similar, putting the bottom line first is a perfectly fine perspective, IMO. People can judge me all they want, but I'd rather be Bilzerian than win the HS World Championship. Not in terms of his lifestyle (lol), but in terms of actual $$ winnings. I am that guy and I think that's a reasonable paradigm to have as a poker player.

Emils It's a bit of tough spot for me because, if I'm just being honest, if I could wave a magic wand and have one billion dollars in my bank account (insert Mr. Evil meme), I don't think I'd play anymore. There's other things that I enjoy a lot more than poker. However, as far as jobs go, it's really tough to beat the pay and flexibility that poker provides. I am extremely grateful to be able to have the opportunity to play for money, but I probably can't go so far as to say I'd rather be playing/studying poker than, say, sports.
radiosick Matt sent me your article and it was like you articulated exactly how I've been feeling point for point. It was extremely helpful and reassuring to hear of someone else going through something similar. Thank you so much for writing that. Excellent piece, truly.

Results so far this month: 46hr2m, +~$11,500, and +6.22 EV bb/100
I have only played seven days this month, .
Let Down EffectThis may sound a bit odd, but I've been dealing with a bit of poker depression so far in March. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy with the direction of my life and, of course, with my recent poker results.
However, in my mind, this year was going to be an epic struggle to get to 2k and establish a WR. Here we are in March and it is beyond doubt that I'm a clear winner at high stakes. I've already accomplished every single goal that I set for the whole year... and we're still in Q1.
I pushed myself so damn hard in the past nine months to get to this point that, now that I'm here, I find myself asking... "Is that all? That's it?". On the one hand, getting to this point was the ultimate goal. On the other hand, I'm already a bit bored without something to strive for. The success has been a let down of sorts.
I don't really have any desire to be one of the best players in the world or move up to 5k. The goal is to accumulate retirement money as fast as possible... but I just do NOT do well without some kind of a challenge. When I'm not striving for some kind of next level, all of the sudden the motivation to put in 300 hours months just dries up. I mean, I'm still on pace for 200 (lol), but the effort isn't in the same universe.
I took a full Friday off to enjoy a concert with my wife. We got back around midnight and I easily could've played, but I just went to bed instead. For me, this is... not normal. After taking something like three out of the last five days off of playing, I've kicked the blues a little bit, but I'm still feeling unsettled about the idea that my plan basically just calls for me to tread water for the next two-plus years.
That's just... lame as f. Maybe I will need to find some additional challenges outside of poker. I am not sure.
I probably sound like a first class whiney b, but, hey, maybe someone else will be able to take something from this. Everyone is human in the end.
Like any other challenge, I'm sure I'll find a way to overcome this feeling and get back to pressing at my maximum capacity. For now, I'm trying to allow the state/the feeling to just exist. In my past lives, I've learned that when I try to deny these things, they just get worse. Instead of trying to distract myself from the feeling, indulging it seems to create enough impetus to change... eventually. No one wants to feel the blues for very long after all.
Anyway, I will still do my job to the best of my ability. However, if you've noticed that I've been contributing/posting less, this is why. If I've been a bit grumpy or short with you recently, I apologize. I will, without a doubt, work through this, but I may be a bit less ever-present around the interwebs in the mean time.
As always, GLGL with your grind, fellas!

Weekly Structure
In January, I played ~16k hands and made $9,000. I completed NBC (anti-bot H2N pop-up), produced content regularly, and had no issues with availability for 1on1 coaching nor the weekly strategy calls.
Note: I only do 1on1 coaching with current, active members of the Nachos Ignition team.
In February, I played ~83k hands and made $51,000. I had to stop hosting the strategy calls entirely, missed all but two of the HH reviews, canceled all my 1on1 coachings, and barely updated the team Notion with new bot content. I even missed out on CV reviews for a big chunk of the month.
I'm sure this is an opportune time to start throwing the word "balance" around. However, the cold hard reality here is that any time that I do not play during playable hours, that is a -EV decision. If I can sustain 5+bb/100 at 2k, it is unlikely that coaching or CFP work will ever be able to pay me anything close to what I can make from just playing. Likewise, the marginal return on further studying, outside of looking at CVs to note pool trends and find new exploits, is significantly lower than just spending the majority of my working hours actually playing.
As a coach, this presents as a bit of a conundrum. I have quite literally signed myself up to a position where my job is to help other people improve their WR. At the same time, I am not rich nor wealthy by any realistic measure. My number one goal with poker is to secure my family's future and reach a point where my assets & cash flows outpace my expected cost of living expenses for the rest of my life. Further, the goal is to do this as quickly as possible.
All of this is to say that I do need to find some kind of a "balance" between producing a substantial amount of value for the team and simply playing a lot. I think, going forward, my approach, for now, is going to be to take one full day off per week on Mondays. My focus on Mondays is going to be to produce content that immediately increases both my EV at the tables as well as that of the team's.
With this approach, I should still clear 150+ hours per week of grind and still have time to make multiple strategy videos, upgrades to NBC, and host a weekly call. For now, in terms of "balance", that will have to do.
Maybe this isn't a very relatable "problem" for most people, but it's been something I've struggled with here in the first two months of the year. I have a strong sense of obligation to deliver extremely high value content to the Ignition team, but I also feel compelled to play as much as possible to earn for my family.
I have full confidence that I'll land upon a schedule that allows me to surpass expectations for both sets of obligations, but, in the mean time, I appreciate the team's tolerance for my unusual inconsistency with scheduling.
As per the plan, I won't be playing today. I have some upgrades to NBC planned that should be ready by the end of my work day.

You must play. It's really that simple. Didn't run well, but captured close to another 10k in EV tonight. I wasn't going to play. I haven't taken a single day off of playing this month -- let alone poker itself.
However, the word came down from several Nachos that the bad bots were in at 1k+. At that point, for me, taking a break is not a serious option. I made several vs bad bot blunders that could have made this session significantly better, but it is what it is. You can easily get rusty and forget a few important things when you don't play them every day.
Maybe tomorrow I'll take a break... Maybe. Not if bad bots are playing HS, though. I don't even consider taking days off when they're in and neither should anyone else playing 500+.

Well, what can I say? It's been one hell of a start to shooting 2k. I won $28,000 this weekend. The bad bots were back at 10/20 tonight and, if anything, it was easier because it seems like less 2k regs are aware of how to exploit the bad bots compared to 1k and lower. I went absolutely ballistic with the exploits and got lucky with a couple preflop all-ins and that turned the session into a monster.
I don't even know what to say. Can you believe I almost didn't play 2k this weekend? Well, this ain't horseshoes nor hand grenades so here we are. There's no going back. I know I can be a 2k winner now.
Right now, I'm feeling extreme gratitude. There's been a lot of... shit on the way to getting to this point and I'm not really talking about poker. I am talking about twenty years of self-development. Peep the new thread title, ;)
I wasn't even going to play 2k today. I had fully talked myself out of it... but I got a timely DM letting me know the games were incredible and that now was the time to pull the trigger. I took a big gulp and popped another 10k onto my account.
Good thing I did. I ended up capturing 11k in EV -- by far my best day ever. I didn't win nearly as much, but shit happens. I actually thought it was even better than this, but I had my tracker set to "today" and my session started before midnight. Still, complaining about a ~6k day is ridiculous. This is still my second biggest win ever.
2k has been demystified for me. I couldn't tell a single difference between the 2k regs and the 1k regs. As weird as it sounds, the smaller pool made the games feel a bit easier to me. It wasn't wave after wave after wave of tables with x2 good bots.
I played my first hand of online poker on March 12th, 2024 on ACR. Less than two full years later, I am putting in winning sessions at 2k. I will stop short of saying it is surreal because, and I know how this sounds, this is the result I envisioned and the result I expected. Overwhelming effort will always pay off... somehow.
Anyway, let me not get too carried away with the results of one insanely whale-y Friday night session. Let's see if I can consistently book wins on Wednesday nights, too. This shot hasn't landed yet. I need to stay locked in.

# My Best Month Ever
Unequivocally, February has been the best month of my poker career so far:

We're only 19 days in and I'm just 800 hands off my personal record for most hands played in a month. I've more than doubled my previous best for EV captured in 6max (~$33k vs ~$16k). 6max hourly is up to $200/hr and $EV/hr is higher than that.
Of course, I did lose about 8k to bots HU in the early part of the month so my total profit is only ~19-20k which is still ~1k off my best.
The big change here came when I decided to trust myself to take a shot at 1k. A big thank you to MM for the push. In the first 20k hands of this shot, I am winning 8+ EV bb/100 at 1k which is far more than I was ever hoping for. Of course, maybe I'm just running particularly well, but it doesn't feel like I'm doing anything special, subjectively. The games feel the same as 500 with the sole exception of it being a fair bit harder to find recreationals.
I can only hope that the transition to 2k is half as smooth as this one has been.
Either way, it doesn't matter. I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that it is just a matter of time and effort until I can establish myself as a winning 2k reg on Ignition.
Thanks for reading my latest diary entry, 😅

Alright, I've seen enough. MM was right. Time to shoot 2k. Next weekend, I am replacing all 500r tables with 2000r tables.
6max Results in February:

I think the timing here is perfect. Bodog is being shuttered in favor of Ignition. If the rules work the way we anticipate, that means all the LATM and Canadian players previously restricted to 1k will now have access to 2k. I think, in practice, this should mean that there is very little difference between 1k and 2k going forward. It will mostly be the same people. And I think I am beating 1k very, very soundly when I focus on table selection.
Time to sack up and shoot.

Heads-Up vs Good Bots -- FAILURE:

Debrief:
We are 10 days into February and I've logged 75+ hours and 30k+ hands. Not bad.
Lot of junk volume, though. I am just now getting used to all the new changes on Ignition and I feel like I've hit my rhythm. For the rest of the month, I'm just going to be max bum hunting 1k. So far, the results of this shot have been disappointing (outside of running insanely hot in 6max), but I really think the shot clock changes hurt me quite badly in the beginning part of the month. I am still confident I can start winning ~5 EV bb/100 at 1k going forward. I feel like I've completely adjusted to the faster pace. If not, I can always go back to the stress free grind of 10-15 bb/100 at NL200. I do think, realistically, I need to win at least 3-4bb/100 to make 1k worth it. Otherwise, the lower variance, lower stress, and similar hourly of 200 is preferred.
We'll see what I can do with MAX BUM HUNTING engaged. It shouldn't be all that much worse than what I've done at 500. The players are better at 1k, but not 5+bb/100 off my WR better. Just a little better. And rake is lower. It really, really shouldn't be much different.
I need to perform. That's all. And I will.

Probably the worst 20k hands of poker I've played since rededicating myself to the game in June. The changes to the timebank have meaningfully impacted my ability to play properly as my hands/hr have gone up 50%. I trust that I will get used to it and it will ultimately be a benefit. 500h/hr is what I used to play on ACR (even touching 600). However, this pool is not well-suited to fast play, autopiloting as we have so many different profiles to be aware of from multiple types of bots, RTA players, fish, and the occasional, actual human reg (yeah, all 4 of them, lol).
I have not actually been able to produce WR (1bb/100) in 6max over a 20k hand sample which was pretty unthinkable for me before last week.
Heads-Up:
I have also been trying to battle the bots HU, which I guess is going well enough:

I have been playing a very bizarre (for me) style because bots literally can't adjust to what I am doing. My strategy is so comically imbalanced that you would seriously question my intelligence if you saw the CVs, lol. Whatever. It's working and we're only going to improve as we start building out anti-bot HU resources (we haven't focused much on this yet).
I hate it. I can't tell you how much I hate it, lol. It is working in a limited sample, though.
I'll take it because it gives me first access to new Fish who join the pool and is massively increasing my hands/hr (which has also been a problem as mentioned above). There have been many occasions where I get a whale to myself for 5-50 hands. That's massive, massive EV.
Moving Forward:
I need to get used to all these new conditions (lots of HU, pace of play, etc). Adding to all of this is the fact I am shot-taking 1k and learning HU play on the fly at HS. It's probably not the greatest recipe for elite WR.
I trust myself to bring it together and make it work. I trust myself to get back into that super healthy 5-10 EV bb/100 zone, but it is really, really ugly right now.
Feels like I am running particularly bad the past few days, but what can you do? EV line says otherwise. Just says I suck and I need to get better. Which is true enough. That's always true enough.
Anyway...

# 2/4: +~$2000
Tracker was glitching and missed loads of hands. That is why there will be no graphs. At one point, I was down about ~5k today. Just kept running into it at 1k. Or had draws I couldn't fold because I had the odds, but I was still going to lose 60-65% of the time. You know how it is.
I kept playing, won all 5 buy-ins back at 1k and finished up 4 buy-ins at 500nl.
Tbh, it wasn't really smart game selection. I sat HU with good bots and held 4 tables during the dead hours. So I got access to every single fish that joined the pool after ~4am or so (because there generally wasn't four full tables going for most of it).
If we had proper data on the good bots, we'd absolutely wreck them HU. Their strategy seems far more exploitative HU than it is at 6max (where they're largely balanced and fairly tough to deal with).
Whatever. I'll take it. I'd like to see a little more discipline with just turning my PC off when the games suck. I could've done that about ~1hr into this session with no regrets. Instead, I got angry and decided to chase. The drive to compete served me well in sports, but it is very often problematic in poker. I really hate losing... but a session where we lose money isn't the same thing as losing a game or a match or what have you. That's the wrong frame. I know the right frames -- I just revert to old paradigms in the heat of the moment.
There's always something to work on.

Thanks! Sorry, I know I am prone to dropping huge walls of text.
Nachos represents only a small portion of the pool. The "bad bots" most likely win at <=200nl when a Nacho is not at the table (and they crush 50-100nl regardless). However, I do not believe that they have won at 500nl+ in a very long time. What appears to be happening, though I could be wrong, is that they show up at higher stakes every 4-8 weeks with an "improved" strategy. They then get their asses handed to them and move back down. Kind of like a normal player taking a shot, lol.
Of course, on the dark side, there is the possibility that these "bad bots" are not even programmed to win in the first place. They could be action generating bots that work for the house. They share so many similarities to the "good bots" that it makes no sense for them to be developed by completely different teams. That said, the "good" bots are still at 500nl+ and still crushing so I don't fully understand their incentives, either.
I can't say which it is for sure (or if it is even some combination). When they're around, I just thank the lucky stars and try to max exploit for as much as I can before they leave again.

The bad bots were back at 500r/1000r tonight! Even though my EV line doesn't really show it, when the conditions are like this, 10+ EV bb/100 WRs are possible at high stakes. I really have to consider shooting 2k if they're back again tomorrow night. The spot is just too nice.
Absolutely crushed the bad bots throughout the night. Wasn't really making strong value, but, luckily (?), I got all-in preflop against AA 3 times (including one multiway) and won two of them. I also jammed 2P into better 2P against a bad bot... and spiked the river for 150bb, lol.
Given enough hands, it is impossible not to have an outstanding WR in pools where the bad bots are present when you have full access to all of Nacho's tools. It is truly the best value proposition in all of online poker right now.

Session Debrief:
The "bad bots" made a 2-3 hour appearance at 500-1k tonight! Too bad it was short lived. They were gone by the last hour of my session. If they are going to be around regularly, 10+ EV bb/100 WRs are going to be possible even at 1k/2k... buuuuuuuuut the won't stick around. They've been doing this since summer: showing up for a day (or a week), getting hammered for -5+ EV bb/100 and then retreating back to mid-stakes. Recently, they've even gone from 200nl. While their resurgence here was a welcome reprieve, I'm not counting on this being any kind of trend.
If I can take ~1bb/100 off the "good bots", which I believe is easily doable because of their sizing tells and a handful of remaining spots where legitimate hard exploits are available, all I have to do is perform well against Fish and I am guaranteed a very, very solid WR at 1k (and even 2k) because there are two good bots per table at HS, anyway.
Nachos is about to make one last major improvement to our bot identification algorithm while simultaneously incorporating ~1+million new hands into our team DB. I think once that happens, most of the off-table bot foundational work will be done. From there, it will just be a matter of checking recent data trends from time to time to see what strategy elements have changed, but there will be no more hours upon hours spent thinking about how to improve the algorithms, debugging them, etc. Additional work will mostly be maintenance and staying on top of emerging profiles.
Once that work enters a maintenance phase, my focus for 2026 will become establishing a healthy WR at 2k. I may need to undergo some extensive coaching/skill work to get to that point, but whatever it takes is whatever it takes. The larger thing I'm getting at is that, at some point, my edge is going to be sufficient to just start banging out as many profitable hours as possible.
Personally, I don't have any aspirations to be one of the best players in the world. I want to make a few million dollars and retire very, very early. If I can use this situation with the bots to be able to play 2k profitably in high volumes, I can achieve this relatively quickly by using the profits to continue to invest in real estate. My wife and I already own one vacation rental in southern California. If I can start banging out 250-300k years, between her income (which is also six figures) and mine, we'll be able to acquire and fully pay off 3-4 properties in the next handful of years.
Long story short: I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My exit strategy is firmly in place and there's a clear, achievable path to get there in a reasonable time frame.
Now, we just do the do until it is done.

Biggest losing pot ever, lol

Final January Results:

1k Shot Results (so far):

Just from a raw, objective, financial perspective, I am not playing enough and doing too much off-table work. I am a key part of the engine that drives a lot of the Ignition anti-bot work forward for Nacho's, but, frankly, I make much more money actually playing than I do as a coach/shareholder for Nacho's. I need to make sure I limit off-table work to hours of the day/days of the week that game conditions are not good. If I am going to be working seven days a week, I should never be sacrificing any of the high EV hours to be doing research, building strategies, doing admin, general business, etc.
This is an issue of prioritization and scheduling more than anything. I can easily manage both. I just need to increase the amount of hours spent actually playing and allow myself grace with completing other projects more slowly. I sometimes struggle with feeling indebted to finish off-table projects as quickly as possible because I don't want anyone to ever feel like I've led them into an arrangement where they aren't receiving the level of value they were anticipating. I don't want to recruit players to Nachos and have them be disappointed with the actual experience.
Still, I just need to make sure I prioritize logging as many quality hours as possible. I am just winning at too great a clip to not play more more than I do.
Food for thought.

Session Debrief:
I am having a bit of trouble toggling between the metas at 500nl and 1knl. This the worst results I've had at 500nl in ages and it is almost all from calling down too much against a pool that I really, really don't have to give much credit to. I'll fix it.
8k in 60 hours? Not bad for an absolutely pedestrian 16k hands. Can't have volume this low again this year if I want to achieve 500k hands and 1500 grind hours, though. Not like it wasn't worth it... We were able to bring on six new students to the Nachos (at least -- still one very big addition coming, 😉 ) and the HH exchange is practically growing daily now that the first ice breakers got through.
Shout out to Marinelli for (unintentionally?) challenging me to stop playing 200nl and just move up to 1knl. Oddly, I really enjoy the challenge of playing there more than the super, duper heavy bot exploitation style that you need to play at 200nl. I am actually using things that I studied in the solver again. I actually play poker... sometimes. Let's not get carried away. Still pretty much a 1:1 human:bot ratio out in the 1k streets.
Feeling very good about the state of Nachos right now. Feeling proud about my contributions to that state as well.
I'm pretty "meh" about my actual poker, but that's probably just because I am a crusty ass who can't seem to find satisfaction in anything less than 10+ EV/bb 100, lol.
I'll shut up now.

Goals
That said, 2026 is going to be about poker for me. The main goals that I have are:
Finish development Nacho's suite of Anti-Bot Tools including: the Bot Crusher H2N4 pop-up and the aliases, *DONE*
Recruit 6+ new players into Nacho's Ignition team & grow the public Ignition HH exchange to 6+ members (~1 person / 2 months).,
__DONE__1500+ grind hours, 1000+ study hours, 500k+ hands played, $100k+ total profits, establish myself as a winning 1k reg (3+ EV bb/100), take my first shots at 2k,
Seek out and find a long-term high stakes coach to help me get to and eventually become a winning 2k reg
Half of my goals for the year done before the end of Month 1,
thebigswoot I am not aware of any publicly available source of information on how to ID bots. Unfortunately, no, it is no longer obvious at all if you're planning to play 1k/2k as you will only face "good bots" and they camoflauge extremely well.
The ratio of bots to humans at 2k is worse than any other stake save perhaps 200nl. The pool is incredibly small and the bot developers always have 1-2 bots per table at 2k. Ignition has a 4-table limit and it is typical to not be 6 handed at all four tables during a session which means a higher % of your hands are played against bots.
The best value proposition on Ignition is 200nl as there are still "bad" bots at that stake that are as exploitable as Fish. The second best is going to be 1k because the pool is still large enough, due to accessibility, that you can have more than 4 tables going during peak hours which means you're much more likely to playing against actual humans (you will still have 1-2 bots per table but closer to 1 on average).
