This is it, the SCOOP starting this Sunday!
SCOOP camp is coming to an end and the most study-intensive two weeks of my year so far are culminating here.
I find it quite difficult to set goals for a tournament series. Since the fields are so large, the variance can be massive. I know that I would be pleased with at least one four-figure score and finishing with a profit by the end of it. However, to set myself a more actionable goal, my target will be that when I later write up a key hand for analysis, I want to not be embarrassed by the choices I made. Whenever there is a key spot, I want to arrive at my decision logically and so that I would be happy with myself later, even if the choice proves to be wrong.
Sunday starts for me with the Power Path Express and the first Sunday Million on Stars. The rest of the schedule is still depending on how the day goes. There are some really great tournaments also running on WPT Global, a large main event starting on Partypoker and of course massive WSOP tournaments starting on GGPoker. Lots of these tournaments are clearly beyond my bankroll so the schedule will start with a bunch of satellites.
Here's to hoping that my next update will contain many well-played hands and maybe even a nice score!
See you at the tables!
Very mixed feelings from the first day.
Wasn’t feeling great, decided to limit myself to 3 tables at most with the $215 Sunday Million, Power Path Express and $55 mini Sunday Million.
Played like an absolute donkey in the big Sunday Million. I think the stakes may have been too high for me and I faced some mental block. Completely wasted my first bullet, recovered my second bullet to almost starting stack and then got it in preflop with KK against A8 and A3 (both covering me) while being around 30 BB deep. A8 rivered a straight against me and that was the end of that.
Won a $109 Main Event ticket from the power path.
Then in the $55 I wasn’t playing my best either but the opponents were weaker and I got some good hands in as well. Every time I started to lose my stack, I got a lucky break and held on, all the way through to Day 2. On Day 2, I was playing much better but I could feel the mix of PKO and ICM theories messing up my thinking. Went all in for most of my 40 BB stack preflop with AJs to catch a large bounty but lost to AKo. Not even sure if it was a punt or just a PKO spot. Then got fortunate to make most of it back, only to face two very similar situations. 15 BB effective, both times I raised from MP, BB called, and I got top pair on T-high and J-high boards. I shoved both cases, got called by second pair and lost on the river. In the first case, I lost out on a nice bounty, in the second case, I lost my tournament life. Ended up placing around the 100th place in a 9k field, missing out on all the juicy payouts.
So that’s that, variance giveth and variance taketh. There’s definitely a lot of work to do on my game but some solid plays give me hope. Onwards and upwards!
