I play on a very fishy site, and sometimes the fish call me out for my river raises lol. Like I am the one who is the fish haha!
Can definitely relate to the inner battle. Sometimes it feels so much better to fold your trashy hands, rather than raising when you know you can easily get called sometimes.

After a disapointing Sunday on the tournament felts (oh, what could've been!), I figured this morning is the right time to finally start my poker journal. I've been thinking about it for years, wanted to make one on another forum, but I think I might've found my niche here so here we go.
A little about me:
Father of four kids
Played professionally from 18 to 25, retired then with a lot of monies, made a lot of bad business and life decisions, ended up busto and in jail.
I am 36 now, trying to sustain my family with a steady grind.
I've always been a cash game player but recently most of my profits have come from binking tournaments. Can't pursue them full time because they are too time consuming, also my personality is more suited for cash games. I don't think I could deal with the highs and the lows of the MTT grinder life that well.
I am from Quebec, Canada and play on a ring-fenced site here. Games are very soft, but rake is kinda high, and they don't run a lot higher than NL200, but since this is what I am currently playing I want to focus on that site for the next 6 months and see how high I can take my roll. Right nowwe start this blog with around 4k in the account and a few months of expenses saved up. I am currently in a good spot financially compared to the previous months where I was forced to grind NL100 only. I have to not be lazy, play a lot of hands and the rest should take care of itself.
I use GTO Wizard and watch videos on RIO to work on my game. In the past year I've also made a lot of personal improvement by quitting smoking and generally living a healthier lifestyle.
I will try to post weekly with some cool hands I played and to track my progress. Admittedly, one of my goal is to build a social circle in poker, which is something I've always been lacking. Thanks for reading and good luck with your grind!

These theory videos are by far the best kind of videos to improve quickly. The way you just cover broad lines makes it so the theory really covers a lot of spots. I will instantly be more aggresive during my next session. Let's so how that goes, haha!
Looking forward to the next part.

When you misclicked the 52, flop came J52, what's the rationale behihnd raising there? What other type of hands benefit from raising?

Hello Jungle! Thanks for the video. Actually watched most of the championship in real time, and kind of admired your courage to battle against these guys xD
You definitely made a lot of moves in the video and maybe didn't play your best, but I quite liked your thought process and the way you analyzed your mistakes.
I remember some memorable hands you played in the championship that weren't in this video so as far as suggestions goes, I would like a 2nd part like that one.
What kind of game are you mostly focusing on these days? What kind of game/setting (online or live) do you think is worth focusing on for the coming years?

Hello Gary. I'm a old timer getting back into poker, and glad to see you still making videos. Something about your teaching style that really helps my game. Especially liked the explanation you gave on the J8o BvB, too bad you couldn't shove it in real time :)

Hello, I read your story and it was quite inspiring. I am also a man of faith.
I am rooting for you. Hopefully like some other blogs around here the microstakes are just the beginning of your journey.
I struggle to put in enough volume also and it seems to me that 50k hands is a good target.

Hello. Been following your blog for a while.
I want to start grinding on Ignition. I figure there are some things I need to know about those bots. How can I join your team/discord?

If I hadn't read this blog I still would think you were a drug dealer from Columbia that looks like Pablo Escobar that dumped a few buyins during the world championship for fun.

Years have passed and here you are, still in my TV, still in my other TV, still crushing. True love and dedication for the game. Keep crushing.
First time I watched one of your video I thought you were just another MTT donk, lol.

What's up with all the cold calling preflop? QTo and 45s esp from SB.
Also with what seems to be a very wide range of yours I think stabbing Ax at the end here on K high board seems very iffy.
Is this the standard preflop meta at these nosebleeds MTTs?

In the long run this constant battle against time personally brought me a lot of added anxiety in my life. With the money you have and the hourly you are making maybe when you feel burn out you can consider a more laid back approach. Maybe this fits your personality better than it did for me tho!
Any thoughts to making videos in the future?

Took a very long break from full-time poker and RIO. I was happy to see you are still making videos, first I'm watching with my new subscription, thanks Gary :)

Any chance you can share these notes with us? I'm very bad at bookkeeping. Very typical of me to not ever have taken a note out of all the hours I studied.
Hello Luke, very interesting video. Can't wait for the second part.
Pretty comforting to see that I am not the only one making wrong assumptions about what the solver will do on some hands. :)
